Join the Great Divide Trail Association for a self-supported maintenance trip on the David Thompson Heritage Trail. Self-supported trips have few camp facilities and a more independent and flexible camp experience. These are preferred trips for experienced volunteers. Volunteers are expected to be able to hike up to 10 km per day carrying a daypack and tools. OHV support will be available to bring in camping gear and supplies to camp. The crew will be clearing brush and deadfall, repairing washed out tread, assessing the crossings over Cairnes Creek and the Blaeberry River and making improvements as required.

  • Volunteers are responsible for bringing their own clothing and camping gear, e.g. tent, sleeping bag.
  • Volunteers are responsible for bringing and cooking their own food.
  • While trail building experience is not mandatory, volunteers should have experience backcountry camping and hiking.
  • Trips are free for GDTA Members.
  • Carpooling assistance will be coordinated by the GDTA this year for those interested.
  • The GDTA will provide all trail maintenance tools, tool training, and safety orientation for all trips.
