HAVE YOUR SAY FOR THE FALL AGM
Members! Hiking season is finally back! While our attention is certainly focused on the hikers about to set out on the GDT this year, the board is also planning for the *Annual General Meeting on September 28 (registration details will go out soon after the hiking season).

As a registered Canadian charitable organization, the GDTA has a legal obligation to present the financials to our members and have them vote to approve those reports.

The AGM has also been the setting to:
  • provide updates on the year’s activities, and
  • vote for new board members.
We want to hear your thoughts!
• What would you like to hear about at the AGM?
• Are there updates you’ve been hoping to get?
• Are there issues you want to make sure are on the board’s radar?
• What would make the AGM more useful for you as a member?

Or email us and we’ll do our best to address your comments during the AGM.
 – Your Board of Directors

*The AGM moved to a virtual format due to planning, costs, and the technical challenges of hosting in person so close to the end of the hiking season. Furthermore, our membership extends well beyond a single region, so hosting virtually provides equal access to the material. But have no fear, the board appreciates the value of in-person get togethers, which is why you saw a good number of meetups last year. We’ll continue to do the same again this year!

CALL FOR BOARD DIRECTORS
Shape and protect the Great Divide Trail by joining the GDTA Board of Directors. Whether you are a backpacker, hiker, or outdoor enthusiast, with 6–10 hours a month to volunteer, you can help to responsibly create an iconic Canadian wilderness opportunity.

Interested candidates should submit their name via email. Please include why you want to be a part of the Board, any existing GDTA volunteer experience, and any other qualifications or reasons why you’d make a great Board member.

GET AND STICK TO YOUR PERMITS

Ensure you have all the proper permits for the areas you are hiking. Although acquiring them can sometimes be challenging, permits are important for a myriad of reasons. Please read more here.

WE DID IT!
It is with great pleasure that we announce we have officially received approval to proceed with the Blaeberry Cable Ferry! We also have secured Section 57 Authorization encompassing the Collie Creek Historic Trail.

This is truly an historic moment for the GDTA. It is the largest and most complex project our organization has ever undertaken. It has taken years of dedication, persistence, and problem-solving to reach this point. There is still a lot of work ahead to complete the project, but today we celebrate!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: ERRIS LAKE TRAIL BUILDING TRIPS
High Rock Range
July 8–13 and July 14–19

We’re looking for additional volunteers to join two upcoming trail-building trips in the High Rock Range. Spaces are currently available on both crews:
Trip #5 – HRT Erris Remote Base Camp Trip C July 8–13
Trip #6 – HRT Erris Remote Base Camp Trip D July 14–19

This project will focus on constructing new trail between Erris Lake and Clay Lake, helping improve access and connectivity within one of the Great Divide Trail’s most spectacular sections.

Volunteers should have previous backcountry camping experience and be comfortable hiking approximately 8 km to a remote base camp while carrying their own food, camping gear, and personal backpack. Once in camp, volunteers will have access to a well-equipped base camp featuring a cook tent, wood stove, cooking stoves, latrine, water filtration system, dishwashing station, and bear-resistant food storage area.

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to give back to the trail, develop trail-building skills, and spend time in the mountains with a great group of people, we’d love to have you join us.
